I am a self-taught baker who abides by the philosophy that more is more. On this site you will find my favorite cookies, cakes, seasonal treats, journal entries, nostalgic treats, bars, and muffins. I think a kitchen is a place to foster your creativity. Go ahead and add some more mix ins to that cookie dough! Create your own flavor combos!
Baking doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. I like to say, “if you bake, you are a baker.” I often find that I am learning along with my readers. I am so happy to have you here joining me in my efforts to make something delicious.
Who Is Lily P Crumbs?
You might be asking, “if you’re Alex, then who is Lily P Crumbs?!” In 2019 when I first started selling my baked goods, I named my business after the best dog (and oldest dog) in the world: Lily P.
It turns out that Lily was not actually the oldest dog in the world since there was a German Shepard in Australia that outlived her. Despite her inability to secure the Guinness book title, Lily was an incredible part of the family and became the namesake.
The joy of baking is to explore, try something new, and have fun! If you mess up, just remember that even ugly desserts can be delicious!
All About Lily P Crumbs
How long have you been baking?
I have been baking since I was a little girl. In middle school, I started a small baking business focusing solely on cupcakes. My main customers were my mom’s friends but in my mind, business was booming. Throughout my life baking has been a source of joy, creativity and catharsis. It wasn’t until college that I started to create my recipes but now it is one of the favorite parts about baking- bringing an idea to life!
How did you start baking on the internet?
In 2018, I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and underwent treatment. In that time, I baked something new almost every day. I started chronicling my bakes on Instagram on an account called @CookingwithCancer. It never gained much traction (just the endless support of my loved ones- which I very much appreciate). After treatment and being told I was cancer-free, I started selling my baked goods at pop-up events around the city of Philadelphia. Then during COVID, I changed @CookingwithCancer to @LilyPCrumbs (the name of my baking business) and started the chocolate chip cookie journey. That journey led me here!
What else should we know about you?
Well, baking is pretty much my life but outside of the kitchen I love running, fashion, the beach, spicy margaritas, Gilmore Girls and broadway shows. In addition to my bakes, I like to share little tidbits of life (and my dogs) on my Instagram if you want to follow along!
Do you take your own photos?
Yes! I am the baker, blogger, and photographer behind all things Lily P Crumbs. All of the photos here on the blog are taken by me!
